So, what IS an "Under Construction Website" anyway? It's quite simple really - it is a website that you're still working on. The website is currently under construction and you're not ready for the world to see it yet. In the meantime, there's something you need to do - you need to create an "Under Construction Web Page". This will effectively be the Home Page until such time as you're ready to replace it with the real thing. Is this REALLY necessary - Yes! Let me tell you why...
Assuming that you have registered a new domain and that you have it all set up at your hosting company, when you type in your domain name what appears is basically just a blank page which says index of/. Underneath it will say .cgi-bin/.
You may have uploaded your product(s) into a folder inside your public_html file. If so, you will also see some folders under the .cgi-bin/ directory. If they are clicked on your products(s) will be visible and could even be downloaded. Obviously, the last thing you want is for someone to accidently get to your website as they will have access to everything you have to offer. So, you need to do something to protect yourself...
You need to create an Under Construction Web Page!
This is basically just a Web Page which you create in a html editor like Kompozer and save as the index.html file. It doesn't need to be very fancy - just a little text saying something like "This website is under construction" and maybe an image - would do the job nicely. And best of all, nobody will have access to your products until you want them too!
